How to Prepare Your Home Before an Installation

Installing a new wood floor is an exciting investment that can completely transform your home. While our experienced installation team will take care of every aspect of the fitting process, there are a few simple steps you can take beforehand to help ensure your project runs as smoothly as possible.

At Woodcraft Flooring Installation, we believe that good preparation leads to exceptional results. Here is what you can expect before your installation begins.

Clear the Installation Area

Where possible, we recommend removing all furniture, rugs and personal belongings from the rooms where work will be carried out. This allows our team to begin work immediately and ensures the installation can be completed as efficiently as possible.

If there are larger items that cannot be moved, please let us know in advance so we can discuss the best solution.

Consider Access to Your Property

To help the installation run smoothly, please ensure there is clear access to the property and the rooms where work is taking place.

If parking restrictions or access limitations apply, informing us before the installation date allows us to plan accordingly and avoid unnecessary delays.

Allow Time for Acclimatisation

Wood is a natural material and responds to its environment. Depending on the type of flooring being installed and the conditions within your property, the flooring may need time to acclimatise before installation begins.

This allows the timber to adjust to the temperature and humidity of the property, helping to achieve the best long-term performance.

Our team will advise you if acclimatisation is required for your particular flooring.

Ensure Other Building Work Is Complete

If you are undertaking a renovation, wood flooring is normally installed towards the end of the project.

Plastering, decorating, electrical first-fix work and any other tasks that create excessive dust or moisture should ideally be completed before the flooring installation begins.

This helps protect both the timber and the finished floor.

Maintain a Stable Environment

Wood flooring performs best in a stable indoor environment.

Before and after installation, we recommend maintaining comfortable room temperatures and avoiding sudden changes in humidity wherever possible.

This is particularly important if your property has underfloor heating, as heating systems should be introduced gradually in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Discuss Any Existing Flooring

If existing flooring needs to be removed, please let us know before the project begins.

Whether your home has carpet, laminate, engineered wood, parquet or solid timber flooring, our team can advise on the most suitable approach and whether the existing floor can be removed, restored or incorporated into the project.

In some cases, we may even recommend restoring your current wood floor rather than replacing it, helping to preserve its original character while reducing unnecessary waste.

Protecting Your Home

We understand that we are working in your home, and we treat every property with the respect it deserves.

Our team takes great care to protect surrounding areas wherever possible, minimise disruption and leave the workspace clean and organised throughout the installation process.

Attention to detail is just as important away from the floor as it is during the installation itself.

Communication Is Key

Every project is different, which is why we encourage our clients to discuss any questions or concerns before work begins.

Whether you have pets, young children, restricted access or specific scheduling requirements, we will always do our best to accommodate your needs and ensure the installation is carefully planned around your home and lifestyle.

Preparing for a Floor That Will Last for Years

A successful installation begins long before the first board is laid.

By preparing your home in advance and working closely with our experienced team, you can help ensure your project progresses efficiently and achieves the highest possible standard.

At Woodcraft Flooring Installation, we believe that exceptional workmanship starts with exceptional preparation. From your initial enquiry through to the final inspection, our goal is to make the entire process as straightforward, professional and enjoyable as possible, delivering a wood floor that you and your family will enjoy for generations.
